September 27 Edinburgh Robin Chapel wood carvings - Open Doors DaySo much information is lost in time that little wonder massive historical events are misconstrued or forgotten.
After over 50 years George Robertson revisited the splendid Robin Chapel at The Thistle Foundation Edinburgh and reviewed his hand carved animals, lecterns, pews and 3 fruit works of art on the ceiling. Accredited to Thomas Good Master woodcarvers whose studio was in Ramsey Lane near Edinburgh Castle. In fact this was crafted from solid oak by my father whilst working for Mr Good who retired leaving the studio in his hands soon after. Attached photo is George Robertson taken at one of these lecterns, note the intricate leaves below. There are also splendidly carved detailed thistles on the pew ends.
Also worthwhile visiting to view the many Stained glass windows magnificently colourful and a legacy to be admired.
Other fine examples of his woodcarving created can be viewed in St Giles Cathedral, Royal Bank of Scotland (cornices ) St Andrews Square. and many war memorials.
I will add some other works later but photos can never express the hard work, concentration and dedication required to produce these masterpieces.Indeed the devil is in the detail. May 14 GOOD LUCK RANGERS UEFA CUPEven though NOT a GERS FAN in the interest of SCOTTISH FOOTBALL and the resulting co-efficient assisting Scotland.
I hope they do win UEFA CUP with style and it is not a boring game to promote Scotland over borders.
I draw the line at that and wish Queens and Celtic all the best to prevent clean sweep.
